We’ve already told you that summer is coming. And we’ve been trying to help you step your game up for your summertime soirées (that’s fancy speak for “parties”). Everyone knows that even if the food is boo-boo at a cookout, if you have tasty, ice cold beverages then everything will be alright. Not everyone can handle Uncle Finus’ Grape Moonshine (but everyone should try it). And not everyone wants to get shit faced. Sometimes you just want to chill. This drink is the ultimate chill drink. It’s easy to make, but it’s going to take about a day to make it.
- 4 large mandarin oranges, finely sliced
- 4 Meyer lemons, finely sliced
- 4 limes (not Key), finely sliced
- ½ pound green seedless grapes
- 1 ½ cup sugar
- ½ cup tequila*
- ½ tablespoon fresh mint, julienned (thinly sliced)
- 1 bottle dry white wine, chilled
- 1 bottle champagne, chilled
- ½ cup club soda
This works better when the citrus fruit is not cold. So if you keep your fruit in the refrigerator for take it out and place it on the counter a few hours before you’re ready to begin. Now that your fruit is room temp put the fruit in a large bowl or pitcher. Pitchers work best for storage, but it’s really up to you. Pour the sugar over the fruit. Add the tequila to the fruit mixture and mix gently. Let soak overnight if possible, at least a few hours. Fill the pitcher ¾ full with ice. Pour in white wine and add mint, right before serving, add champagne and club soda. Technically this makes 12 to 14 drinks, but it’s really more like 5-6 drinks if you’re an adult. When you serve the drinks put scoop some of the fruit and put it in each glass. Then pour the sangria over the fruit.
*Don’t use cheap shit. It doesn’t need to be Patron, but it should at least be in a glass bottle.
