Fourth of July is tomorrow, so you know what that means: BBQ and Booze.  If you don’t have the BBQ part down all is not lost, but make sure you have the booze part under control. Then you won’t even notice that your function sucks.

Yes, it’s very easy to just grab a few party balls or 12 packs and have it. But that might not work if you plan on partying in public.  More and more places are instituting strict policies to limit the consumption of alcohol in public places. But fret not, for all is not lost!

Sure you can’t drink  alcohol in public, unless you live in a lawless place like Las Vegas or New Orleans, but what does the law say about eating alcohol? We’re not going to fact check and find out, instead we’re going to assume that even if it is against the law you’re pretty much in the clear unless you decide to offer some of your booze food to the cops. If you do that, you’re on your own.  Here’s a recipe that you can whip up in no time and they’ll allow you to keep the party jumping.

Tipsy Balls

Don’t let the name fool you, you’re still going to want to put these in your mouth.  The recipe is simple enough:

  • 1 (15 oz.) package of Nilla wafers
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 cup chopped nuts (pecans work well, but almost any nuts will do)
  • 3 teaspoons white Karo Syrup
  • 1/3-2/3 cups whiskey

Smash the Nilla Wafers until crumbly.  If you don’t want to smash them because it’s too much work, you can place them in a food processor.  Just make sure you don’t go overboard, if the wafers become too fine it may prove difficult to create the balls later.

Mix all ingredients except Karo and whiskey. Mix whiskey and Karo together until well blended. Add to other ingredients and mix thoroughly. Shape into balls and roll in powdered sugar.

Now these won’t get you faded, but they’ll help keep your buzz. If you want an added kick, you can make a whiskey/sugar syrup mixture and drizzle over the balls.
