Denim is a material that has been a part of many fashion trends for both men and women over many decades. This has positives and negatives. You are always safe wearing a splash of denim at any time, however does this create the risk that what you are wearing is unoriginal? Boring? Uninspired? Maybe you need a push to explore more interesting aspects of denim to get you out of that danger zone, or maybe you feel overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of denim products for sale and would like to be guided through what’s on offer? Either way, this post will help you see what’s hot and what’s not in terms of denim in today’s fashion; most of which can be applied to men and woman.
One of the unique qualities of denim is that it can be used to dress down a look and make it seem more casual, or it can be used to create clean, sharp lines, therefore smartening up a look. The former is often represented in jeans, particularly jeans which are on trend at the moment. Rips in the knees of your jeans are still a thing. Yes, this might seem like an old, novel, perhaps to some people tacky and pointless idea, but if you are attempting to achieve a more interesting casual look, this could be the way to go for you. If you don’t want to go for the full-out ripped look, consider faded jeans. Jeans which have been deliberately faded on certain areas of the legs can help add texture and interest to the pants you wear; you are no longer wearing a pair of jeans slipped on at the last-minute. You are wearing jeans that look as if they have been slipped on last-minute. There is a difference; the second ones have purposeful style.
The item that fits the latter statement about the varying qualities of denim (smartening up a look), is the classic denim jacket or shirt. Sharp, clean-cut lines on a good price jacket can make the wearer look a lot more attentive, and really bring out the angles of someone’s face shape, jaw line and haircut, as well as geometric shapes occurring elsewhere in the outfit. A perfect way to present yourself this season. If you are feeling brave, you could go full-out and try the double denim look. Be warned, this can either look perfect or you’ll look like you’ve been hanging out with Brett Favre in a Wrangler commercial; there is no in between. This move definitely needs to be thought through carefully first.
So whatever denim trend you decide to follow this year, make sure you give an old idea a modern twist, to help bring your outfit into the spotlight of spring 2015.
